Chris Sorensen Jacksonville FL Obituary, Death – Rtd Jacksonville Fire Rescue Engineer Is Dead
Chris Randall Sorensen, a Jacksonville, Florida, native, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2026, at the age of 65, with his family by his side. His passing marks the loss of a devoted family man, former firefighter, entrepreneur, musician, and philanthropist whose life brought together public service, creativity, and a lasting commitment to helping others. He will be remembered by his family, friends, former colleagues, and the many people touched by his work.
Chris began his professional life pursuing his love of music before following in his father’s footsteps and entering the fire service. He served with the Brevard County Fire Department and the Jacksonville International Airport Fire and Rescue Department before joining the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, where he worked for more than a decade as an engineer and emergency medical technician. Through his years in emergency response, he helped others during difficult moments and developed a deep appreciation for the dedication of fellow first responders.
In 1994, Chris and his younger brother, Robin Sorensen, combined their experience and entrepreneurial spirit to establish Firehouse Subs. What began as a family business grew into a nationally recognized restaurant brand, with Chris playing a significant role in shaping its distinctive atmosphere and design. His commitment to public service continued through philanthropy, particularly the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which he co-founded in 2005 to support first responders and their communities. These achievements became an important part of his legacy beyond his years as a firefighter.
Away from his professional accomplishments, Chris treasured his family and the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kirsten Sorensen; his children, Eric, Steffi, and Brittany; his grandchildren; his mother, Wanda; his father, Robert; and his siblings and extended family. A gifted guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, he maintained his love of music throughout his life. He also enjoyed cooking, collecting historical artifacts, studying history and science, and sharing his quick wit and sense of humor with those around him.
A celebration of Chris’s life is scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, at The Church of Eleven22 in St. Johns, Florida, followed by a reception at Marywood Retreat and Conference Center. His family has invited those wishing to honor his memory to consider donations to the Eric Sorensen Motor Speech Program at Brooks Rehabilitation or the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Although his passing leaves a profound absence for those who loved him, Chris’s years of service, creative spirit, generosity, and devotion to family will remain a lasting part of his story.
